Privacy Statement

This site has moved to robert.williamsonline.us.

Usage Statistics
This site (http://robert.freeshell.org) collects usage statistics via server logs and a hit counter from http://www.bravenet.com. Hit counter statistics include the time and day you accessed this site, your IP address, your operating system, your web browser, and the page you linked to this site from (although that does not seem to work).

I use hit counter statistics strictly for my own amusement and information, and to make decisions about my web site design (e.g., whether or not to use a particular HTML or CSS tag). I do not share this information with anyone else.

Cookies
This site uses cookies to track user information (such as your personal information when entering a comment, if you check the box labelled "Remember info?"). These cookies are not used for any other purposes. If users reject cookies, they may still use this site with no significant limitations.

Other
This site does not require users to enter personally identifiable information. This site does not create user profiles. This site does not host any advertising. This site does not use web beacons.

Information Sharing
I do not share any of your information with any third party. I will not violate your privacy by sending you unsolicited email except short, personal notes when appropriate.

Disclaimer
This site is hosted by http://www.freeshell.org, and the hit counter is hosted by http://www.bravenet.com. As such, the owners of these sites have full access to their server logs, which can include significant amounts of information. I cannot and do not make any guarantees about how the owners of these sites use this information, or even what information they collect. Additionally, this site uses third-party software such as Movable Type and Gallery. I cannot vouch for the way these applications handle your privacy, although I do not believe they will compromise it in any way.

Privacy Tools
Numerous utilities exist to analyze and enhance users' privacy. One tool I recommend is Privoxy. It enables the user to block cookies, mask or forge operating system and browser information, hide referrer pages, block ads, block web beacons, and block hit counters.

For information about other tools and methods to protect your privacy, I recommend EPIC's Online Guide to Privacy Resources.

Changes
If I change this privacy policy substantially, I will post a notice to that effect on my web site, including a summary of the changes.
