Passage: Proverbs 7
Thoughts
v 1-5: Keeping the law close to you will protect you from evil. The law should be like a close relative, someone you are always around. The law should be like a string tied around your finger, something written on your heart. It will be a constant guidance to you.
v 7: The young man with the wrong crowds. "Simple ones" is not to say he is stupid intellectually, but foolish morally.
v 8: He's in the wrong place - too close to the temptation. He should have stayed far away (5:8)
v 9: It's the wrong time - twilight, then evening, then the black and dark night. Notice the progress of time. He's not just walking, he's lingering.
v 10-12: Temptation hunted him down.
v 13-18: Convinces him how much fun sin will be.
v 19-20: Convinces him they won't get caught.
v 21: She is patient, used "much fair speech". She is persistent.
v 22-23: We see the result of his sin - it costs him his life
v 25 - 26: Stay far away from temptation, for stronger ones than you have been overcome.
v 27: Death and hell are the results of falling into this lifestyle of wickedness.
My Prayer
Lead me not into temptation, but deliver me from evil.
