Yahoo! News - Turkish Police Seize Weapons-Grade Uranium

Turkish paramilitary police have seized more than 33 pounds of weapons-grade uranium
...
Officers in the southern province of Sanliurfa, which borders Syria and is about 155 miles from the Iraqi border, were acting on a tip-off when they stopped a taxi cab and discovered the uranium in a lead container hidden beneath the vehicle's seat, the agency said.

It shouldn't be necessary, but I want to remind my readers that there is absolutely no reason to believe than any of the sweet, dear adherents to The Religion Of Peace have any desire to possess, let alone use, weapons of mass destruction. Especially not that fuzzy old teddy bear Saddam, who only used nerve gas on the Turks just one time.

Robert, this comment is either meant sarcastically or incredibly ill-thought out. This is saying "some guy in the middle east has uranium and was arrested." You read it as "some good devout follower of Islam is following the teachings of his faith and providing terrorists the means to attack Israel or the west." This would be the same as saying that Ted Kaczynski or Jeffery Dahmer or Timothy McVeigh are good Southern Baptists because they live in the same country as the largest proliferation of Southern Baptists in the US, and must be following the teachings of Christianity when they commit these atrocities. Come on Robert, you know better than that.

I was glad to see that the dear sweet Submitter To The Religion Of Peace was actually ripped off. It was probably some mangy Jews who ripped him off, too - they're just like that (ask my father-in-law).

Patrick, even you will have to admit the chances of this guy being a fanatical Muslim are near 100%. And the comparison between McVeigh/Dahmer/Kacyznski and Southern Baptists is ludicrous. There are just under 16 million people on the rolls of churches associated with the SBC. That's a small fraction of the population of the United States, and is not comparable at all to the percentage of Arabs who are Muslims.

This also does not take into account the fact that everyone with basic pattern matching skills (except Congress, courts, and law enforcement) is starting to recognize the amazing coincidence that a lot of these terrorists are younger Muslim men. And then some people are starting to realize that uranium is not something THEY use everyday and most likely someone who wants it has some nefarious purposes in mind. Some people even make the bizarre leap to suppose that a Muslim terrorist might want to hurt Jews or Westerners. You just can't account for some people.

hey robert! glad you're back.

one more thing... i have a friend who's formerly a navy translator (arabic translator at that), and she told me that the military generally regards the turkish press as unreliable. apparently they are known for tabloid-style reporting. just fyi, as i wasn't aware of that to begin with.
