Vice President Dick Cheney has been asked NOT to attend tonight's public memorial service for Sen. Paul Wellstone
Good to see that the Wellstones are putting partisanship ahead of decency and compassion. Their complaint? Republicans have (gasp!) criticized Democrat Walter Mondale, and Bush has campaigned for Republican candidate Norm Coleman.
This sort of nastiness and pettiness is, I'm sorry to say, all too common among Democrats these days. Isn't it possible to be at least civilized to those you disagree with? Can we disagree without being disagreeable? Every Republican politician I heard on TV, after Wellstone died, praised the man even though they disagreed with his politics. Wellstone was praised as a statesman. It's too bad that noble character didn't make it into his family.
