Diego Rincon, killed in Iraq by a suicide bomber, is a better man than I am. Read his last letter home. Have a tissue handy.
I don't know you, but Diego was the best man I've ever met. He had so many plans and he did not deserve to die. However, good things are happening because of his death. He's a hero and I'll always love him.

Posted by: on April 8, 2003 09:50 AMI live in Australia but born in Colombia.I never met Diego but I saw the news on NBC about his pass away and it really hit me. Diego to all of us is a hero especially to Colombia may he rest in peace and I wish his family all the best and advise to remember Diego's true bravery and being an inspiration to Colombian people.
Posted by: alex on April 9, 2003 08:59 AMI used to see Diego every day at school. He is such an inspiration and though it's hard to hold back tears he inspires me more than anyone at this point. Catherine, I'm sorry for your loss. Diego will be missed more than words can describe and everyone knows that.
Posted by: Chris Harford on April 9, 2003 11:18 PMI only met Diego once through his girlfriend, Catherine. She and I were good friends while working together at Chili's. Through Catherine and my talks of her relationship with Diego, I felt as if I knew him. Catherine spoke nothing but of her love and devotion to Diego. I have to say how sorry I am to Diego's family, but words could never express how saddened I am for Catherine. Catherine..know I'm thinking about you and praying for you daily. Remember these words: Some people never find the great loves of their lives; you found yours and he will forever be remembered as a hero. I'm always here for you...
Posted by: Shelly Waters on April 10, 2003 02:10 PMAs a major in the United States Marine Corps Reserve and currently activated, I too am Colombian and proud of Diego Rincon. His sacrifice and love for this adopted country has done great things and cemented what we already knew -- that we are patriotic and devoted to the United States of America! God Bless Diego and his family.
Semper Fi Diego!
Posted by: on April 10, 2003 03:14 PMI did not know Diego, but I work with his uncle and two cousins. I am sorry for their loss, and at the same time I have a feeling of pride for Diego. After all, he came to this country to have freedom and fought for that freedom as well. I am ashamed that so many Americans think that they are too good to go to war to fight for this country...they do not know how precious freedom is, but I am certain Diego did. Hats off to you, Diego.

Posted by: Kristen Garrod on April 15, 2003 07:07 AMI was at work today and saw the letter that was published in this weeks People Magazine by Diego to his family. I don't know Diego, his friends, or his family but after reading that touching letter I cried. My heart goes out to the family and all his friends. Good Luck and may the Lord bless you all.
Posted by: Trevor Lege' on April 22, 2003 09:11 PMDiego was one of my stunt partners for cheerleading and we were two of four seniors on the salem football/comp. squad for 2000-2001. When i heard of his death,i was in shock and disbelief, but I know that Diego was defending his country and protecting my freedom. Diego, I thank you so much for your sacrifice. I will never forget you and you will always be in my heart. You are truly an inspiration to many and you will be missed. (I will always remember our "fall" at regions) TO diego's family~ you are all in my thoughts and prayers and I pray that you will be comforted. To Catherine~ I used to take you and Haley to school, I just want you to know that I am thinking about you and keeping you in my prayers as well. I don't know what this sort of loss feels like from your standpoint, but always remember that Diego is watching you from above and loves you dearly. Thank you Diego once again for your inspiration and your sacrifice for our freedom. With Love.
